Looking Southeast from a hike up Hurricane Hill. The hike up to the top of Hurricane Hill is not especially easy because it is steep towards the end of the hike. However, compared with other hikes, it is relatively easy because parts of it have been paved with asphalt and it isn't too long. The hike up and back is approximately three hours. The view from the top is very wide ranging. To the west you will be able to catch a distant view of the Pacific Ocean. To the north you not only have a good view of much of Vancouver Island, but also of the Cascade range extending northwards many miles. And of course you will have a spectacular view of Mount Olympus to the south-southwest. You can drive right up to the trailhead of this hike. So that getting there is easy. Once you have driven from Port Angeles to the Visitor Center at Hurricane Ridge, the road continues on from there just a few miles, where you can park and start this hike. Hurricane Ridge and Hurricane Hill are two separate locations. In this picture you are standing on the shoulder of Hurricane Hill, with its peak behind you. Hurricane Ridge is off in the distance in this view, on the ridgeline about a quarter of the width of the picture in from the left. It is the small open patch of tannish brown meadow surrounded by dark green trees. |
