•  common name: golden hops
•  flowering season: late summer, early fall
•  height: to 20 feet after several years
•  Light requirements: full sun or partial shade; the leaves will be their brightest yellow in full sun
•  Soil requirements: undemanding; well drained
•  Water requirments: very drought tolerant with age; water regularly during the first couple of summers
•  Growth habit: twining vine
•  How to propagate: digging up one of its rooted sideshoots
•  Leaf type: 4-inch lobed golden leaves that are slightly raspy to the touch
•  Ways to use it: draped on the side of a building or trained up a large trellis it will be bright and beautiful; during the summer it can be used for privacy or to screen out unsightly views when trained on trelliswork
•  Special characteristics: this vine is not evergreen; all of its growth above ground is completely replaced with new growth the following year; and it grows very quickly during the summer

Growing quickly from a small plant into its full size of twenty feet up a support, this vine is very colorful in full sun with its golden leaves. Surprising to those who have not grown it before is its habit of sprouting anew each year from the ground and not from the previous years growth. In other words, at the end of a season cut away that year's growth back to the ground. This plant is very long lived, and next year's growth will come from the roots that survive from year to year. The plants we offer produce hops, round balls about an inch wide, that appear on the vine in late summer and have the typical hops scent that we enjoy closeup. Deciduous. USDA Zones 4 - 8.
