  • Special characteristics: although it is a perennial, it blooms all summer as though it were an annual
Blooming continually all summer, from spring to fall, this golden daisy-like flower has a black “eye” with a ring of pure white spots in the center of each flower. Each flower is 2½ to 3 inches across. Its leaves are green and white. A tender plant, it can only be grown outdoors in the ground in USDA Zones 9 to 11. In colder zones, it could be grown in a container and brought indoors for the winter, or simply grown like an annual and replaced each spring with a new plant. So colorful in both its foliage and flowers, and so long blooming, that more gardeners should grow it. We find it easy to keep it over winter indoors by the side of a sunny window or in a greenhouse. With a height from four inches to just over a foot, it spreads wider, up to two feet. This gazania's habit of growth is sprawling more than upright.
