Carex albula 'Frosted Curls'
- common names: frosted curls sedge
- height: 12 inches
- Light requirements: sun to partial shade
- Soil requirements: average
- Water requirments: average; likes moist soil
- Growth habit: a widening clump
- How to propagate: dividing in spring
- Leaf type: fine hair-like leaves with curl at the ends
- Ways to use it such as in a pot or otherwise: adaptable to average garden conditions or to boggy soil; the light coloring of the leaves makes a dramatic contrast to other plants
- Special characteristics: evergreen; shearing back a plant in spring might be necessary if any of the leaves have burned because the winter has been unusually harsh
A silvery version of New Zealand hair sedge, its mature height and width are 12 inches. The ends of the very thin evergreen leaves are white and curling, giving it a unique look. We recommend replanting it every four years or so, dividing a large plant into smaller plants and keeping only the most vigorous parts of a plant. USDA Zones 6 to 10. |
